The annual field trip for federal government employees working in the tech industry. It's where government agencies and high tech companies come together to showcase their products and attempt to hawk their wares.
Let me tell you what it's really about. It's all about the free pens, mouse pads, key chains, shmoosh balls, monitor squeegies, and chocolate these vendors tempt you with. One vendor attempted to give away apples. Seriously... if you want me to come talk to you, you are going to have to entice me with something a bit more substanial then apples. I like free pens.
I was however impressed with the Google and the Government of Korea booth. This is because both Google and Korea are going to take over the world, and I am planning to join them. (i can't wait for the google spiders to index this text) From a corporate perspective, the Google box is an amazing product. Unfortunately due to the new guidelines of government procurement, it's also a product that will never be looked at.
I also learned yesterday that attending a tech trade show where the ratio of men to woman are 30-1 is a great place to meet men. I found one... his name is Alex Hugo, he is pictured above. I couldn't understand a word of what this man was saying, but I think it's something along the lines of - "One of these robots has twice the productivity of any federal government worker." I am still not sure of what Alex Hugo does, I know he walks sideways, and can dance, and that is more competency then I can say for some of my fellow federal government employees. And if Alex Hugo can dance and walk sideways, well... that's man enough for me.
Although it was a semi-productive afternoon yesterday full of shmoozing, free pens, beer, and chocolate, unfortunately the G-Tech conference did not teach me how to save my comment user info, write an about page, or fix my mousover problem. I think I need to start hanging out with some Koreans. |
