I always have a good time at Under Pressure and this year was no different. It was bigger then last year, more going on, and I was in much better company. I also knew how to use my camera properly. We stayed pretty late to party and it was a bonus that I didn't have to drive home.
I have loved breakin' for a long time; it dates back to a time when all my friends loved the New Kids and I was in love with Mike D from the Beastie Boys. I remember practicing the worm and spinning on my head in my parents basement. I have totally perfected this move. If you ever feed me enough alcohol I will be sure to demonstrate this for you.
Breakin' began in the 80's as a way for rival gangs to settle territorial disputes. I know this because I saw it on TBS Superstation Saturday morning; you can read more about it here.
I was comparing my photos to last years event, and not to my surprise they were very similar. Same artists, dancers and many familiar faces within the crowd. Regardless of how much fun I had this year, I should have known that you can never re-create the same fun or experience you had the first year. I am looking through my photos and at the same time I am preparing to teach my course this weekend and I am busy at work writing a communications strategy. I will always love the music and culture associated with this event, but I have come to the revelation that perhaps I am too old for this. Long gone are the days that I can stay up and dance till 8am.
You can check out more Under Pressure pics on flickr. I have more to add tonight.
