Arusha Market
Have you ever wondered where the old clothes that you donate to the Goodwill end up? Right here. The old clothes are shipped over and importers buy and resell it by the bulk. There really isn't much that you can't find here. There are piles and piles of shoes, clothes, fruits, vegetables, livestock, furniture and appliances. Visiting an African market can be an overwhelming experience. The markets are terribly crowded and being a mzungu with blonde hair, I stuck out like a sore thumb. Taking photos in the market was tricky. I shot in stealth mode trying very hard not to offend people with my camera. Those who did catch me taking pictures expected to be paid. When visiting an African market it's important to mentally prepare yourself to be relentlessly accosted, be prepared to barter. I have attempted to bring my new found bartering skills back to Canada. "How much do you want for those tomatoes? $3.00! no no no no no, I'll give you a $1.50. Unfortunately those skills don’t quite work the same way here.
