Mayday Monday( 05.02.06 ) PREVIOUS :: CURRENT :: NEXT
I told you yesterday about the characters around my house. Yesterday was Maday Monday; a large group of vagrants (I use that for a lack of a better politically correct word) blocked off rush hour traffic on Elgin. They marched down to the police station to protest the right to panhandle, to speak out against police brutality and being charged with unnecessary fines. The peaceful protest in front of the police station only lasted about 20 minutes before they marched back up Elgin again.

When I iniatially went out to take photos, the girl giving the finger in the photo screamed at me "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TAKING MY PICTURE FOR!" This is the first I ever argued my right to take photos - I yelled back "IT IS MY RIGHT TO BE HERE TO TAKE PHOTOS, if you are going to march in the street, block off rush hour traffic, I am going to be taking pictures, do you not want publicity for this." She seemed to respond well to this as I got them to pose for this picture. I like to pretend I am a photojournalist. Sadly, I searched the papers quickly this morning for anything relating to this and found nothing.

Funny, that guy is giving you the finger with one hand and peace symbol with the other. Great pic.

I didn't read any newspapers today, but I saw this photo. Maybe you are a photojournalist.

Beautiful shot, stunning really! It's too bad that these interesting stories don't make it on the news, I enjoy these obscure tidbits of life. I also enjoy and admire the tenacity you displayed in securing this photo, well done! This is my first visit to your site...it won't be my last!
