Farm Protest( 04.07.06 ) PREVIOUS :: CURRENT :: NEXT
I don't usually like to post the same subject 2 days in a row, but the one I wanted to post is not turning out at all so here is another shot of the farm protest. I also have a few more that you can see here.

Having grown up on a small farm in Southern Ontario, I can appreciate how hard these people work. My father who gets up at 5:30am to go to his farm, then to his business, then comes home briefly for dinner, then goes back to his farm, then back to work again, who takes a one week vacation a year, is the hardest working man I know. Personally I find it rather sadistic of him; I have troubles making it to work by 9:00am. I'm more like a 9:08am type person. Regardless, these farmers work hard, and from what I gather from the protest, they receive very little appreciation.

I am still unclear of all the issues, so I tried to photograph as many of the protest signs as I could. I know that many of these farmers need to be willing to embrace technology and adopt new farming practices to be able to survive and compete. But I also know that we can do little things to help them, like buying local produce and meat.

i'm glad you posted another photo. this one's better than yesterday's. farming was discussed at some length yesterday in the house of commons (mind you, from the looks of it, many MPs are already playing hookie). your dad may also be more of a masochist :) have a good weekend!

this is a good shot, i like the composition, the sense of solitude it gives me, the dichotomy between the suit and the land... whoa, where did that come from :) its a great shot, i can dance with it, i give it a 9.1

I really like the picture as well. I guess it's the perspective I like. Nice!

I like this one very much. I wish I had gone up there and taken some photos. We don't appreciate the hard life these people live so we can eat.
